Suicide Prevention Training
Every Suicide Is Preventable.
At Stigma Marketing, we believe in the power of authentic human connection and the importance of supporting one another through life's challenges. Our commitment to suicide prevention is a cornerstone of our mission to foster empathy, understanding, and resilience within communities and workplaces.
Why It Matters in Montana
Montana consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for suicide rates. With an average of 24.5 suicides per 100,000 people, the need for effective suicide prevention measures is critical. By equipping more Montanans with the necessary tools and knowledge, we can work together to reduce these tragic numbers and save lives.
The Importance of Suicide Prevention Training
Suicide prevention training equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to recognize the warning signs of suicide, provide support, and connect at-risk individuals with the help they need. By educating ourselves and others, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone.
VETERANS
Veterans face elevated suicide risks due to PTSD, depression, and challenges transitioning to civilian life. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reports significantly higher suicide rates among veterans compared to the general population. Stigmas often get in the way.
LGBTQ+
The LGBTQ+ community faces higher rates of mental health issues and suicide due to discrimination and lack of support, as well as addiction. LGBTQ+ youth are over four times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers, according to the Trevor Project.
Native Americans
Native American communities in experience disproportionately high suicide rates, influenced by systemic issues and historical trauma. These communities often face underfunded services and limited mental health resources.
WHITE MEN
White middle-aged males have among the highest suicide rates in the U.S. Societal pressures, economic challenges, and social isolation contribute to this statistic. 40% of men have undiagnosed mental health issues & nearly 70% of all suicide deaths involve white males.
The STIGMA of SUICIDE
Stigma surrounding mental health issues prevents many individuals from seeking help, leading to isolation and untreated conditions. Addressing stigma involves promoting understanding, empathy, and acceptance within communities.
GATEKEEPERS
Gatekeepers are individuals trained to recognize signs of distress and intervene effectively to prevent crises. Found in diverse settings like workplaces, schools, offices, churches, and dispensaries, gatekeepers play a crucial role in suicide prevention.
How We Know Suicide
Stigma Marketing's story is rooted in a deep understanding of the struggles many face, particularly those battling addiction and suicide. Our name and mission was born out of it. Our journey began with a passion for leadership and communication, but life took an unexpected turn. We faced a significant personal battle through addiction and loneliness, which led to brushes with suicide.
This experience wasn't just a dark chapter, but a catalyst for growth. It opened our eyes to the profound impact of mental health and addiction struggles, and the crucial need for support. We witnessed the power of recovery and the importance of helping others find their path out of the darkness.
Through this experience, our passion for leadership and communication took on a new purpose. We sought to not just create compelling messages, but messages that could empower and uplift.
Stigma Marketing, first founded in 2022, reflects this commitment. We became a certified QPR suicide prevention trainer, determined to bridge the gaps between marketing, development, leadership, and societal stigmas.
We are excited offer again a unique blend of professional training and genuine empathy. We understand the struggles related to addiction and suicidal thoughts because we've been through them. And we've been blessed to help others.
If you're looking for someone who understands the human side of the equation, someone who has stared into the abyss and chosen hope, it'd be a pleasure to meet.

THE PROBLEM: Suicide is a leading cause of death, and stigma prevents people from seeking help.
Native American communities in Montana experience disproportionately high suicide rates, influenced by systemic issues and historical trauma. These communities often face underfunded services and limited mental health resources, contributing to the ongoing crisis (Montana Free Press) (Montana Public Radio).
Veterans in Montana are another group significantly impacted by high suicide rates, which are nearly double the national average. Despite nationwide declines in veteran suicides, Montana continues to struggle with high numbers, highlighting the need for targeted interventions and better support systems (Montana Public Radio).
LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly those who are transgender or nonbinary, face significantly higher risks of suicide. Recent data indicate that 41% of LGBTQ+ people have seriously considered suicide, with rates being particularly high among transgender men (56%) and nonbinary individuals (48%) (The Trevor Project) (EdSource).
White males, particularly middle-aged ones, have among the highest suicide rates in the U.S. Societal pressures, economic challenges, stigma around mental health, and social isolation contribute to this statistic. Nearly 70% of all suicide deaths involve white males, according to the CDC.
THE SOLUTION: Your team can be the difference.
“Gatekeepers” are people in positions that allow them to recognize warning signs and provide initial support and referral to professional help. Budtenders, hair stylists, faith leaders, and health professionals are just some of the industries that can act as gatekeepers to identify and support people at risk of suicide.
Studies indicate that gatekeeper training increases knowledge, self-efficacy, and confidence in intervening and referring at-risk individuals to appropriate services. Although evidence of their direct impact on reducing suicide rates is limited, the training positively influences gatekeepers' attitudes and behaviors toward suicide prevention, leading to more timely and effective interventions (BioMed Central).
